Miami Herald  Visiting Key Largo  January 4, 2009

There are several decent dining options in Key Largo. We like to stop at Key Largo Conch House (formerly known as Key Largo Coffee House; everything in Key Largo seems to have a past life) to say hi to Romeo, the African gray parrot, and the resident dog. You can dine on omelets, cappuccinos, salads and smoothies on the wide porch of this restored Victorian, or sit among the trees outside this laid-back restaurant.

Key Largo Conch House: A family-run barefoot Conch kind of experience. Breakfast and Lunch run $10 per person. Dinners are $13-23, plus drinks. 100211 Overseas Hwy., 305-453-4844, www.keylargocoffeehouse.com

Cape Cod Times  February 03, 2008

The first morning of my trip I spent searching for a coffeehouse recommended by a friend. Though located right on Route 1, the Key Largo Conch House is all but concealed in a grove of trees. When I finally glimpsed it, I had to brake hard to turn into the parking lot.

A shaded path leads from the parking lot to the tiny restaurant and coffeehouse. The thick foliage seems to absorb the surroundings; sitting on the wraparound porch I almost forgot that a four-lane highway runs just a few yards away.

The staff members are friendly and, I later learned, engage in familiar banter with customers after only a few repeat visits (sturdy mugs of café con leche plus free wireless Internet plus stupendous fish tacos equal instant customer loyalty).

Laid back and accepting, the Florida Keys are perhaps the pet-friendliest part of the state. On US 1, stop at the Key Largo Conch House, MM 100.2. Lunch entrees from $6.95, Dinner from $12.

Friendly, leashed dogs welcome.
